Dismay at O2 job cuts

Dismay at O2 job cuts: "Dismay at O2 job cuts
The UK's Communication Workers Union (CWU) has expressed its shock and dismay at the announcement by O2 yesterday that the mobile phone company is planning to cut up to 500 jobs in non-customer facing areas.
CWU assistant secretary Dave Johnson said: 'Whilst the majority of the job losses will affect managerial grades (up to 450) the CWU nevertheless believes that even 50 job cuts at such a time of high profit and growth does not make sense."

I hope they didn't get laid off with a text message.

Solar Death Ray

"Jane Doe," my "secret admirer,"
suggested I burn a rubber ducky. I
conducted a thorough search for
the optimum duck, one that might
be able to withstand the awesome
power of the Solar Death Ray.

Excellent - a death star death ray. Obviously slow moving targets. I'm surprised Ronald Regan and W.Bush aren't shutting this guy down - this is the STARWARS project uncovered

Free white paper on 3G deployments

Free white paper on 3G deployments: "Free white paper on 3G deployments
In its newest white paper, 'In-Band W-CDMA: The Commercial Potential for 850, 900, 1800, and 1900 MHz Deployment,' The Shosteck Group examines the potential for 'in-band' W-CDMA -- W-CDMA deployed in frequencies already used for GSM, rather than dedicated frequencies to which it is or would be allocated."

Nice one.. I love freebies on high speed applications

. MarketingSherpa reporters estimate only .03% of the 34.5 million existing blogs are driving sales or prospective customers to their bloggers. (That's less than 1,000 that we've been able to find.) Want your blog to be the one that works? Discover seven practical secrets from a real estate blog that gets prospects to raise their hands and beg to be contacted:"

I think this overplays the power of blogs now, but they are a strong force with no doubt. Some interesting thoughts

Windows Media working on Nokia handsets

Windows Media working on Nokia handsets: "Windows Media working on Nokia handsets
PacketVideo says that it will be the first company to demonstrate a mobile media application playing Microsoft Windows Media audio and video on Nokia Series 60 phones. PacketVideo's featured demonstration closely follows the landmark announcement made by Nokia and Microsoft less than 30 days ago at 3GSM World Congress in Cannes. The two companies announced collaboration on digital media formats, including support for Windows Media Audio and Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) on music-oriented Nokia handsets, plus support for the MPEG Advanced Audio Coding (AAC) family of codecs. PacketVideo is demonstrating not only Windows Media Audio, but Windows Media Video on Nokia 6680 and 6630 phones."

I got this series of phone, the rubbish thing is - if you want to have a video on your phone - you cannot transfer it unless it's under 8 seconds. Another rubbish thing is you cannot transfer one format to another - i.e: not have an video that plays as someone calls - like a ring tone

Nice one Ericcson. Maybe I can get a Bluetooth enabled WMD?

Boffin honoured for necrophile gay duck paper | The Register: "Boffin honoured for necrophile gay duck paper

A Dutch researcher has been honoured for his illuminating research into necrophiliac gay ducks - a hitherto unprobed side of animal behaviour which rather eclipses recent work on homosexual sheep and stroppy cows."

Wow gay ducks of the dead
Rugged phone from Siemens: "Rugged phone from Siemens
Siemens has launched a 'rugged' phone designed for outdoor use. Thanks to the unique Siemens Protection System, it can easily withstand dust, splashes and shocks. If it falls to the ground at work, while hillwalking or if it is left lying on the beach the M75 just takes it all in its stride. The phone is protected by an integrated aluminum frame with solid rubber cushions on the sides of the casing and still it only weighs just 110 grams. Especially the display is protected by the metal frame from scratches and breaking. Detachable rubber seals also keep dust and splashes off the built-in 1.3 megapixel digital camera and other particularly sensitive parts."

Nice offering from Siemens, but as with Nokias rugged phone - did it take off? Maybe the price of this and MP3/272k features makes this a better deal
