More mobile phones than people in the UK: "More mobile phones than people in the UK
Recently collated Christmas sales figures are revealing that the number of mobile phones currently in circulation in the UK is greater than its population size. The new total is based on the number of contract and prepay subscriptions and is further evidence of the significant mobile data growth witnessed in the past 2 years, coming after just 11 years of digital mobile cellular services being available in the UK."
Well this kind of makes sence... how many businesses make sure their employees cannot use their mobile phones for personal use, and then cannot use 3g/blackberry devices for voice tariffs? As people wise up to PAYG sims for other countries people will be buying GSM phones and using these in other countries. At present, people signed up to T-mobile, 3, Orange will find their phone won't work with another providers network - 02 and Voda yes you can get cheap tariffs PAYG sims rather than paying stoopid amounts for roaming. So take up of handsets and Sims would be cheaper abroad, or people buy GSM and travel with them (as a spare handset). Of course the killer question is upgrading - do you pay or port to another providers SIM and then port back again.
